Tolerance to ‘Nail Household’ highlights social progress (4)

Common good should not be achieved at expense of individuals

Certain netizens believe that unlike a handful of greedy ‘nail households,” the “nail household” in Wenling refuses to move mainly because of the 340,000-yuan gap between the building cost of his house and government compensation. Facing sky-high housing prices, the elderly couple has every reason to struggle for a place to live.

“Governments, relocated households, and construction companies are equal, and the settlement of their disputes is a process of mutual compromise. Common good should not be achieved at the expense of individuals,” said Yang Jianhua, another research fellow at the Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences.
