The police have been sending officers to university dormitories in the district each semester to distribute leaflets about the local laws, but decided to put more effort into the campaign after last month's accidents, Ding said.
In an incident Monday, a foreign student driving an unregistered moped collided with a local driver at an intersection on Handan Road, according to the authorities.
Ding said students are not usually punished for infractions, but they will receive warnings about taking the vehicles off campus.
Police have also received complaints from residents who live near the universities about foreign students who race their mopeds on the street at night.
"We will confiscate the mopeds if we find drivers racing them," Ding said.
