MACAO, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Macao recorded about 873,000 visitor arrivals during the five-day May Day holiday of the Chinese mainland, with a single-day number hitting a record high, the Public Security Police Force of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) said on Wednesday.

Around 248,000 visitor arrivals were recorded on May 2, setting a new record for single-day inbound arrivals since official statistics began. On the same day, the SAR's total border crossings reached 889,000, also setting a record high.

The average hotel occupancy rate topped 92.7 percent over the holiday period and peaked at 98.3 percent on May 2, said the Macao Government Tourism Office, quoting industry figures.

The tourism office said it had rolled out measures such as pedestrian zones and tourism shuttle services to guide visitor flows and encourage exploration of local communities.
