Sun Yingsha shut out of WTT Champions tourney
CHONGQING, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Kuai Man denied teammate Sun Yingsha a third-straight title at the WTT Champions Chongqing tournament as she crushed the three-time Olympic champion 4-2 in the women's singles quarterfinals on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Kuai played a very aggressive game from the beginning and overcame Sun 6-11, 11-7, 16-14, 11-7, 9-11, 11-2.
"This was unexpected," said Kuai. "I fought like an underdog and learned from the first set loss."
The top-seeded Sun seemed to have lost concentration and trailed 1-10 before losing the lopsided sixth set.
In earlier rounds, second seed Wang Manyu and third seed Chen Xingtong, both of China, and third-seeded Zhu Yuling from Macao, China, had been ousted.
Kuai will take on teammate Wang Yidi in the semifinals. Wang outlasted South Korea's Shin Yu-bin in seven sets, 11-7, 11-5, 11-6, 10-12, 7-11, 6-11, 11-2, earlier in the day.
