Trending in China | Dunhuang dance: the Silk Road's timeless art brought to life

(People's Daily App) 15:05, November 06, 2025

Originating from the murals of the Mogao Caves, Dunhuang dance is known for its graceful, flowing movements. This dance beautifully blends influences from China's western regions and the Central Plains. Featuring distinctive poses—such as holding a Konghou (ancient plucked string instrument) and playing the Pipa (traditional lute) backward—it vividly recreates the artistic fusion along the Silk Road.
