BEIJING, April 17 (Xinhua) -- China supports Russia in celebrating the 75th anniversary of the World War II victory and understands its decision to postpone the Victory Day celebrations planned for May 9, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Friday.

Spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the remarks at a press conference in response to a question on Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to postpone the Victory Day parade celebrating the 75th anniversary of the World War II victory amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zhao said China and Russia, as comprehensive strategic partners of coordination and major victorious nations of the World War II, made tremendous contributions and sacrifices for the victory.

"The two sides will continue to work with the international community to firmly defend the fruits of the victory of the World War II, practice multilateralism, and oppose actions that falsify history and glorify aggression," he added.
