YANGON, April 8 (Xinhua) -- A medical team from China arrived in here on Wednesday to assist the Myanmar government's ongoing efforts in fight against COVID-19.
The 12-membered Chinese medical team includes medical experts from several hospitals from Yunnan province in the fields of infectious control and prevention of respiratory and severe diseases, clinic treatment and laboratory testing.
With mutual support, the current crisis can be overcome, said Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai, expressing his belief that the collaboration between the Chinese and Myanmar medical teams could be effective for the fight against COVID-19 in Myanmar.
"We welcome sharing experiences and assistance from the medical team as these experts have many frontline experiences in COVID-19 fight and the arrival of the team could be a helping hand for our country as well as a booster for bilateral friendship," Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe for Health and Sports told Xinhua.
During the 14-day stay of Chinese medical team in Myanmar, collaboration works in the field of prevention, control and laboratory testing against COVID-19 will be done between the Chinese medical team and its Myanmar counterparts.
Along with the arrival of the team, a total of 5.3 tons of materials and equipment to be used in laboratory testing and donation of protective gears including 8,500 pieces of N95 masks, 60,000 medical masks, 5,000 medical protective suits also arrived with the chartered flight.
At present, Myanmar has reported 22 cases of infectious COVID-19 as of Wednesday, 17 days since its first two cases were reported on March 23.
