China's COVID-19 fight to make people more confident in its system: Pakistani expert

ISLAMABAD, March 18 (Xinhua) -- A Pakistani policy expert said Tuesday that China's fight against the COVID-19 outbreak will make its people more confident in the country's system as no one has been left behind and all have been treated equally.

The challenge of coronavirus is a big test for the Chinese governance, the unity of the Chinese people and the coordination among governments at different levels, said Mustafa Hyder Sayed, executive director of Pakistan-China Institute, an Islamabad-based independent think-tank.

The fight against the disease shows the governance of China aims to leave no one behind, which "gives the people of China confidence in their system," Sayed said in an interview with Xinhua on Tuesday.

Noting that addressing the coronavirus outbreak was prioritized by the Chinese leadership in the past few months, the Pakistani expert said the world should see how the Communist Party of China led the whole battle against COVID-19 at the frontline, and "there is a lot to learn from the Chinese style of governance."

He also pointed out the vital role Chinese high-tech companies have played during the fight, saying when the government asked people to practice self-quarantine, the cash-free transactional system helped a lot. "It's like all stakeholders work in harmony" in the challenge, he said.

In addition, Sayed commended medical practitioners who put their lives in risk and flew into the central Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, to fight this arduous battle.

"I think that is the biggest sacrifice and the biggest heroes are those nurses and doctors who gave up their family, put their life behind them and took on the challenge to cure the patients of the coronavirus."
