Pakistani air force aircraft crashes in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, March 11 (Xinhua) -- A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) F-16 fighter jet crashed in the capital of Islamabad on Wednesday during a rehearsal ahead of the Pakistan Day parade, spokesperson of the PAF Syed Ahmer Raza told Xinhua.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. local time on Wednesday morning, said the spokesperson, adding that rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site.

"A board of inquiry has been ordered by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of accident," he said.

Security forces have cordoned off the area of the crash. There are no confirmed reports of injuries or deaths.

An eyewitness named Muhammad Ahmed told Xinhua that he saw the F-16 crashing near Shakarparian area of Islamabad, adding that a huge ball of fire engulfed the aircraft following the crash.
