Xinjiang's Urumqi introduces measures to support China-Europe freight trains operation

(Xinhua)    13:29, March 02, 2020

URUMQI, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has rolled out a spate of measures to support the development of China-Europe freight train service.

According to Urumqi Customs, those measures include increasing the customs clearance efficiency, reducing the declaration cost, and optimizing the inspection of imports by China-Europe freight trains.

Urumqi Customs has established designated service windows in several railway ports to implement 24-hour scheduled customs clearance and prioritized clearance of China-Europe freight trains, in an effort to increase efficiency.

Enterprises can use "non-contact" means such as the electronic declaration form to handle customs procedures for goods transferred by China-Europe freight trains.

Urumqi Customs will also accelerate the implementation of the mutual Authorized Economic Operator agreement with more countries to offer simplified customs procedures for train services.

The operations of China-Europe cargo trains are gradually resuming amid the novel coronavirus epidemic. About 70 percent of those cargo trains operating across the country travel through Xinjiang.
