Proportion of severe COVID-19 cases in Wuhan shows notable downtrend: official

(Xinhua)    09:11, February 26, 2020

BEIJING, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The proportion of COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms among all confirmed cases in the epicenter city of Wuhan was 22 percent Monday, down from the peak of 31.6 percent on Feb. 11, Mi Feng, a spokesperson for the National Health Commission said Tuesday.

The proportion of severe cases in Wuhan has presented a notable trend of declining in the recent three days, Mi said at a press conference in Beijing.

The proportions of severe cases in other places of Hubei Province except for Wuhan, and other provincial-level regions in China outside Hubei, had maintained stable since Feb. 7, reaching 11.8 percent and 10.5 percent on Monday, respectively, Mi said.

Thanks to therapeutic measures such as the combination of preclinical medicine and clinical practice, as well as medical treatment and nursing, the country has seen its treatment effect on patients with severe symptoms improving and the transfer of mild cases into severe cases effectively been averted, the spokesperson said.
