BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- With bruised faces or soaked in sweat, Chinese medical staff are going all out to fight the battle against the novel coronavirus epidemic.
When the virus struck, numerous doctors and nurses across the country rushed in groups to Wuhan -- a megacity at the epicenter of the epidemic in central China's Hubei province.
"I volunteered to join the medical aid team", "I joined the fight against the SARS epidemic and Ebola outbreak which gives me experience, so now I am applying to join the prevention and control of this epidemic", "I worked in the division of infectious diseases for 10 years, so I am capable of nursing patients with respiratory virus infection".
They are mothers, fathers, sons and daughters in their families. But when duty calls, they rush to the front line without hesitation.
Stories and images from the front line have touched everyone: a young woman, her face bruised from wearing her mask for too long; a doctor soaked in sweat in his protective suit after hours of working; a mother nurse who can only meet her little girl across window railings.
They are not fighting alone, the whole nation is fighting alongside them.
Under Xi Jinping's leadership, China has taken unprecedented measures to contain the outbreak, pooling national medical personnel and supplies to the hardest hit regions, building new hospitals, extending the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday, postponing the opening dates for schools and businesses, and imposing travel restrictions.
A national research team of experts, headed by renowned respiratory scientist Zhong Nanshan, has been set up to help prevent and control the outbreak. Chinese scientists are also racing against time to develop vaccines for the novel coronavirus.
Local governments across the country have adopted restricted measures to curb the spread of the virus as much as possible, and the public has been cooperative.
Moreover, for the latest development, China has just built Huoshenshan (Fire God Mountain) Hospital in 10 days to battle against the novel strain of coronavirus in Wuhan, and 1,400 medical staff from the armed forces are tasked with treating patients in the 1,000-bed hospital.
When the whole nation stands together, with scientific prevention and cures, and precise policies, this epidemic can surely be overcome.
