NW China province sees trade growth with B&R countries

LANZHOU, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Northwest China's Gansu Province saw trade with Belt and Road countries and regions grow 3 percent year on year to 18.66 billion yuan (2.69 billion U.S. dollars) in the first 11 months of 2019, according to a provincial business meeting held on Tuesday.

The figure accounted for 54 percent of the total foreign trade volume of the province.

Gansu rolled out a plan to better participate in the Belt and Road construction and build a hub economic system with high-quality development of the logistics industry in 2019.

A total of 959 freight trains carrying 1.01 million tonnes of cargo, worth 2.3 billion U.S. dollars, were launched from Gansu in 2019.

In the same year, Gansu also opened regular all-cargo flights from Lanzhou to Pakistan and charter flights to Singapore and Belgium for the first time, with international air cargo volume increasing 53 percent year on year. The grain port in the New District of Lanzhou, the capital of the province, was opened, importing 2,700 tonnes of wheat from Kazakhstan, worth 5.25 million yuan.
