KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tourists seeking to take advantage of the visa waiver in 2020 for Chinese citizens are urged to follow all conditions set out for the exemption, a Malaysian official said on Sunday.
Malaysia Immigration Department Director-General Khairul Dzaimee said this would ensure smooth travel plans to the country in accordance with local laws.
"My advice is for tourists to comply with the conditions attached to the visa waiver for the year 2020," he told Xinhua.
The Malaysian government had gazetted two orders granting a 15-day visa exemption for tourists from China and India from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 next year in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2020 campaign.
The gazettes state that the tourists must be registered through the electronic travel registration and information system and once registered, tourists must travel to Malaysia within three months.
Tourists may apply through the government's visa application website Electronic Travel Registration and Information (eNTRI) or through China-based travel agents registered with the Malaysian Consulate.
The tourist can enter Malaysia and exit from Malaysia only through authorised airports or at seven border crossings located in the states of Johor, Kedah and Perlis on the Malaysian Peninsula or the Northern Borneo state of Sarawak.
The 15-day visa-free period cannot be extended.
On arrival, the tourist must prove they have sufficient funds as well as provide an itinerary of their travel plans and they can re-apply for the same short-term visa 45 days after they leave Malaysia.
The gazettes were signed by Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
In July, the government announced it would grant visa-on-arrival to six more entry points for Chinese tourists.
The Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia announced the new measures for tourists from China and India, with an expected increased influx for the Visit Malaysia Year 2020 campaign.
