Law revisions proposed to limit single-use items in hotels, restaurants

(Xinhua)    09:43, December 24, 2019

BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature on Monday started a second reading on draft revisions to the law on the prevention and control of environmental pollution by solid waste, calling for limiting the consumption of single-use items in hotels and restaurants.

The draft highlights that tourist and catering services should phase out offering disposable goods unless customers request them, and administrative organs, enterprises, as well as public institutions should reduce the use of disposable office supplies.

The administrations should encourage recycling and reusing solid mineral waste, according to the new draft.

The draft also suggests establishing a system to curb solid waste pollution across provincial-level regions, and further improving household waste classification.

The draft will be deliberated during the bimonthly session of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, which runs from Dec. 23 to 28.

The first reading was conducted in June.
