Unilateralism, hegemonism biggest threat to world peace, stability: Wang Yi

SEOUL, Dec. 4 -- Unilateralism and hegemonism are posing the biggest threat to world peace and stability at present, visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here on Wednesday.

Wang made the remarks during a meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha.

"Unilateralism undermines the current international order and the acts of hegemony challenge the norms governing international relations," Wang said.

Wang said that China and South Korea are neighbors, friends and partners. "In face of uncertainties on the global horizon and profound changes unseen in a century, the two neighboring countries should strengthen exchanges and cooperation, understand and support each other, and jointly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests and play a constructive role in regional peace and stability," he said.

Wang stressed that China always pursues an independent foreign policy of peace, advocates equality between big and small countries, and upholds democratization of international relations.

"China opposes the big bullying the small or the strong bullying the weak, opposes imposition on others and interference in the internal affairs of other countries," he noted.

China is willing to work with all responsible countries, including South Korea, to "adhere to multilateralism, uphold the principles of equity and justice, and take concrete actions to safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core, maintain the international order based on international law, and preserve the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization as its cornerstone," Wang said.
