URUMQI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference has expressed strong condemnation of and resolute opposition to a Xinjiang-related bill approved by the U.S. House of Representatives.

By totally disregarding the facts, the "Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2019" smeared and unreasonably criticized the human rights situation, counter-terrorism and de-radicalization measures in Xinjiang, as well as China's policies concerning ethnic groups and religious affairs, the regional advisory body said in a statement issued Wednesday.

Calling passage of the bill a "blatant act of hegemony," the regional advisory body slammed the bill for imposing groundless sanctions on the Chinese side, trampling on the basic principles of international laws and relations, and interfering in China's domestic affairs.

"It has severely hurt the feelings of the Chinese people and sent a completely wrong signal to violent and terrorist forces," said the statement.

By adopting double standards on the issue of anti-terror and de-radicalization, the U.S. is in effect shielding and conniving terrorism and extremism, which runs contrary to international moral principles and human conscience.

"We urge the U.S. to abandon its Cold War mentality and ideological prejudices, and view Xinjiang's achievements in fighting terrorism and extremism in an objective light," said the statement.
