NANJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Nantong customs in eastern China's Jiangsu Province seized more than 100 brown widow spiders and a large number of oocysts, the customs announced Wednesday.
The spiders and oocysts, found in a Panamanian ship, were brought from tropical regions in the South Pacific Ocean, according to the captain.
As a sibling species of the black widow spider, brown widow spiders are usually found in tropical areas. They can cause harm to humans and are sometimes fatal for children and the weak.
The disinfection of the ship has been completed by customs.
