HANGZHOU, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official on Sunday called for efforts to build cyberspace into a community of shared development, security and interests that benefits all of humanity.

Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 6th World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, east China's Zhejiang Province.

Before delivering his speech, Huang read Chinese President Xi Jinping's congratulatory letter to the conference, saying that the letter showed Xi's profound insight into the development trend of the internet and deep concern for enhancing the common wellbeing of humanity, and showed China's desire to build a community of shared future in cyberspace with other countries.

Noting that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 50th anniversary of the birth of the internet, Huang asked for more efforts to develop the digital economy, safeguard the security and order of cyberspace and make the internet a network of win-win cooperation that boosts innovation and mutual benefit.

China will continue to play its role as a major country and work hard to contribute to cyberspace's development, openness, security and the governance of international cyberspace, said Huang.

With the theme of "Intelligent Interconnection for Openness and Cooperation -- Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace," the conference is attended by around 1,500 guests from over 80 countries and regions.
