China is holding its sixth Martyrs' Day event at Tian'anmen Square on Monday morning.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, along with other leaders of the Communist Party of China and the state, will join representatives from all walks of life in presenting flower baskets to deceased national heroes.
September 30 marks China's Martyrs' Day. The day was approved by the country's top legislature in 2014 to commemorate those who lost their lives for national independence and prosperity.
In April 2018, China's top legislature also passed a law to better protect the reputation and honor of heroes and martyrs, coming into effect on the following month.
