Revised laws on judges, procurators to take effect

(Xinhua)    09:20, September 30, 2019

BEIJING, Sept. 29 -- The revised laws on judges and procurators adopted by the country's top legislature will become effective on Oct. 1.

The revised laws, approved at the bimonthly session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress in April, reflect the achievements of China's judicial reform in recent years.

The revisions made improvements in regulations about the rights and obligations of judges and procurators as well as their selection and job security, said an official statement on Sunday.

According to the two laws, judges should adjudicate based on facts and the law, guided by objectivity and impartiality. Procurators must strictly ensure that crimes are punished only under the law and protect human rights. They must prosecute criminals while protecting the innocent from criminal prosecution.

The revised laws also made a series of regulations to ensure judges and procurators exercise legitimate rights under supervision.
