NEW YORK, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday said China is committed to avoiding conflicts and confrontations, mutual respect and win-win cooperation with the United States.

Meeting with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Wang said China-U.S. relations have once again reached a crossroads.

It is dangerous for some people in the United States to advocate seeing China as an opponent, or even play up the idea of decoupling from China, Wang said.

China hopes the United States will adhere to the concept that real harmony hinges on the recognition of and respect for disparities, work with China to manage differences on the basis of mutual respect, strengthen cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit, and jointly promote the sound and stable development of China-U.S. relations, Wang said.

Noting that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, Wang said that the Chinese people appreciate Kissinger's historic contributions to promoting bilateral relations, and he expressed hope that Kissinger would continue to be a bridge in strengthening exchanges and cooperation between China and the United States.

Kissinger expressed his willingness to work for the development of U.S.-China relations.

He said bilateral relations are very important to world peace and prosperity, and U.S.-China cooperation will help solve problems facing the international community.

The United States and China cannot decouple or avoid each other, he said, adding that the two sides should strengthen communication and coordination, resolve differences through constructive dialogue, and avoid conflicts.
