China, Kazakhstan boost economic, trade cooperation

URUMQI, Sept. 26 -- Kasim Hali, a Kazak entrepreneur who owns farms and restaurants in his home country Kazakhstan, set up his first wine shop two years ago at the China-Kazakhstan International Border Cooperation Center in Horgos.

The peak season lasts from April to December, during which he can sell 20,000 to 30,000 bottles of wine a month. "I have opened a shop in Beijing and Shanghai and may open more in other cities," said Hali, hoping to expand his business in China.

Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has seen growing trade with Kazakhstan.

According to Urumqi Customs, the regional capital, trade between Xinjiang and Kazakhstan grew nearly 14 percent year on year to reach 40.6 billion yuan (5.74 billion U.S. dollars) in the first eight months.

China and Kazakhstan also have stable cooperation in other fields, such as energy.

The China-Central Asia Gas Pipelines delivered 23 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China in the first half of this year, according to PetroChina West Pipeline Company.

The pipeline runs from the border between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, passes through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and links up with China's west-to-east gas pipeline in Horgos, Xinjiang.

The China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline has delivered 5.59 million tonnes of crude oil to China in the first half of this year.

In 2018, the trade volume between the two countries reached 19.88 billion U.S. dollars, up 10.4 percent from the previous year.
