AMMAN, Sept. 26 -- Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Pan Weifang has hailed ties between Jordan and China, saying bilateral mutual trust and exchanges at various levels have been continuously enhanced.
He made the remarks on Wednesday evening at a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
"China-Jordan practical cooperation has yielded fruitful results. China is Jordan's third largest trading partner and second largest source of imports. In 2018, bilateral trade totaled 3.18 billion U.S. dollars, up 3.25 percent year on year," said the ambassador.
He added that the Attarat Oil Shale Power Plant, with a total investment of 2.1 billion dollars, is financed and constructed by the Chinese side.
It is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2020, and will meet 10-15 percent of Jordan's electricity demand and save huge energy costs.
Meanwhile, China will provide 485 training opportunities for Jordan this year through the Ministry of Commerce. And the two countries have signed an agreement on the establishment of a Chinese cultural center in Amman.
China is accelerating the preparation for the center, which will become a new platform for the Jordanian people to understand Chinese culture and deepen friendship between the two peoples, added the ambassador.
