WARSAW, Sept.23 -- Poland are still on fire. In Apeldoorn, the team coached by Vital Heyen outplayed Germany 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-18) in the quarterfinal of Volleyball Men's European Championship, extending their winning streak.
In the previous encounters, Poland showed the strength, winning all six matches and losing just one set. Monday's game was special for coach Heynen, who led German national team to the World Cup's bronze medal in 2014. "I have good memories from that time. Our rival plays better in every next match, but we must focus on ourselves," said the Belgian before the quarterfinal.
In the beginning of the match, Andrea Giani's team were the worthy opponents, but then the world champions turned the pace. Thanks to the effectiveness of Michal Kubiak and Wilfredo Leon, who staged another brilliant display, Poland won the first set 25-19.
Then the favorites continued the momentum, making Germany powerless. Gyorgy Grozer was the most prolilfc scorer of 'Die Mannschaft' with 18 points. However, Poland were unstoppable again.
In the semifinal, Heynen's players will battle against Russia or the co-hosts Slovenia in Lublana. The final will take place on Sept. 29 in Paris.
