
BEIJING, Aug. 15 -- More than 80 percent of participants in a survey thought it essential for university students to volunteer, according to a report published in China Youth Daily Thursday.
Among the 2,000 respondents, of whom 85 percent were born in or after 1980, 85.3 percent deemed working as a volunteer important while a university student.
Of all the participants, 82.1 percent have worked as volunteers in activities organized by universities, student societies or other organizations.
Participants also pointed out problems in voluntary service projects.
Around 73 percent of the participants believe that voluntary service projects for college students should be of social significance, while 67 percent suggested that such projects should be relevant to the students' majors.
