BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- A total of 105 scenic spots in Beijing were temporarily closed as of 9 a.m. Monday, as a heavy rainstorm is expected to hit the capital.

Beijing has issued a blue alert for geological disaster, with a red alert for rain and storms in Huairou District.

From 3 p.m. Sunday to 2 p.m. Monday, the city saw an average of 35.4 millimeters of precipitation, with some areas in Huairou District experiencing over 239 millimeters, according to Guo Jinlan, a chief forecaster with the Beijing Meteorological Service.

The weather service predicts that thundershowers will lash the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Local authorities have warned residents to keep away from rivers and mountainous regions as well as areas with hidden dangers.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system for storms, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
