KATHMANDU, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping's address at the just-concluded summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was significant for maintaining peace and promoting win-win cooperation in the world, Nepali foreign policy experts have said.

Xi delivered the speech at the 19th SCO summit in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek on Friday, during which the Chinese leader called on the SCO members to build a closer community with a shared future for the group.

"Xi's statement reiterated the well-known and highly laudable vision of the rapidly globalized world as a community of common destiny while stressing the need to make win-win cooperation the basis of the conduct of 21st century inter-state relations," Nepal's former ambassador to the United Nations Shambhuram Simkhada told Xinhua.

Simkhada said Xi's emphasis on the Shanghai Spirit of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for cultural diversity and pursuit of common development as the core values are essential to promoting peace, development and cooperation.

"The Chinese president's call for making the SCO a model organization for regional cooperation and global governance are particularly noteworthy in the face of the emerging challenges of contemporary international relations in general," he said.

In the opinion of another expert on international law and foreign policy, Yubaraj Sangroula, at the heart of Xi's speech is win-win cooperation for a shared future and rejection of zero-sum game and protectionism.
