China, Thailand agrees to further expand cooperation, uphold multilateral trading system

BANGKOK, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Li Xi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee met with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday and both sides agreed to further expand cooperation and defend the global multilateral trading system.

Li, who is also the secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, conveyed the sincere greetings of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to Prayut and expressed congratulations on the occasions of Thai king Maha Vajiralongkorn's coronation and Prayut being elected as the kingdom's prime minister recently.

Li said his visit is aimed at implementing the important consensus of the leaders of both countries about China-Thailand relations, to deepen inter-party exchanges and promote practical cooperation between Guangdong Province and Thailand.

The Chinese side is willing to work with the Thai side to synergize respective development strategies, enhance the cooperation between China's Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor and promote high-quality cooperation on Belt and Road Initiative, said Li.

China is ready to work with Thailand to promote economic globalization and improve Sino-Thai and Sino-ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) relations, while Guangdong would also like to make good use of its advantages at all these respects.

Prayut asked Li to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi and Premier Li and expressed congratulations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of People's Republic of China. He also spoke highly of China's great achievements guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

The Thai prime minister said the new government of Thailand would continue to uphold its policy of friendship with China and would deepen cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, tourism and telecommunication with China.

The Thai government would accelerate the cooperation between the two countries and that between China and ASEAN on the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen exchanges on governance and jointly uphold the multilateral trading system so as to benefit the two countries and two peoples, said the prime minister.

At the invitation of Thai government, Li led a CPC delegation to visit Thailand on June 8 to 11. He also met Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak and leaders of Palang Pracharath Party and Pheu Thai Party.

During his visit, Li also attended China (Guangdong)-Thailand Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference, met with representatives of overseas Chinese in Thailand and visited Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd..
