Mainland spokesperson upholds May Fourth spirit, accuses DPP as "troublemaker"

BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson has pledged to pass on the May Fourth spirit and remain committed to following the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said Monday that since the May Fourth Movement, the Chinese nation had embarked on a tremendous transformation as it has stood up, grown rich, and is becoming strong.

May 4 this year marks the centenary of the May Fourth Movement, which is widely considered a great patriotic and revolutionary campaign pioneered by advanced young intellectuals and joined by people from all walks of life to resolutely fight imperialism and feudalism.

The movement has inspired the ambition and confidence of the Chinese people and nation to realize national rejuvenation.

As compatriots on both sides of the Strait were jointly commemorating the movement's centenary, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority in Taiwan, however, is throwing slanderous diatribes at the mainland, instigating hostility between the two sides and attempting to create a cross-Strait confrontation, Ma said.

These moves, once again, showed that the DPP and its authority are a "troublemaker," the spokesperson said.

Ma further noted that no individual nor force will be able to hold back the trend of Chinese people and the Chinese nation to seek truth and progress and realize China's reunification.
