COLOMBO, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan police evacuated a highly populated railway station in the capital Colombo on Tuesday after an abandoned parcel was found near the railway tracks.
Police rushed to the scene immediately and cordoned off the area, while the Bomb Disposal Squad worked at the site.
Following a thorough inspection, police said the suspicious parcel was not a bomb and re-opened the area for the public.
Police and security forces have launched a massive search operation since eight explosions rocked churches and hotels across Sri Lanka on Sunday, which have killed 310 people and injured over 500.
A conditional state of emergency was declared on midnight Monday in the island nation to ensure maintenance of essential supplies and services.
