China, Burundi to enhance bilateral ties

BUJUMBURA, April 16 (Xinhua) -- China and Burundi agreed to enhance bilateral ties during a senior Chinese legislator's visit to the central African country.

China and Burundi enjoy profound traditional friendship and bilateral relations have entered the best period in history under the leadership of the two heads of state, Cao Jianming, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said while visiting Burundi.

At the invitation of the National Assembly of Burundi, Cao led a delegation to Burundi from Sunday to Tuesday, during which he met with Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza and acting Senate Speaker Spes-Caritas Njebarikanuye respectively, and held talks with President of Burundian National Assembly Pascal Nyabenda.

China is willing to adhere to the principles of sincerity, practical results, affinity and good faith and uphold the values of friendship, justice and shared interests in working together with the Burundian side to implement the consensuses reached by the two leaders and the outcome of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, Cao said.

He stressed that China will synergize the eight major initiatives proposed at the Beijing summit with Burundi's national development agenda for 2018-2027, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation in all areas including legislature, so as to build a stronger community with a shared future between China and Burundi, China and Africa.

The Burundian side spoke highly of the bilateral ties and the friendly cooperation between the two countries and sincerely thanked China for its long-term assistance and support for Burundi's efforts in safeguarding its sovereignty and developing its economies.

Burundi is willing to further improve political mutual trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation and strengthen coordination and cooperation in international affairs with China, thus lifting the bilateral relations to a new high, the hosts said.
