International experts hail China’s achievements at Boao Forum for Asia

(People's Daily Overseas New Media)    13:28, March 29, 2019

As an important event on the world calendar, the Boao Forum for Asia has once again attracted worldwide attention, as it brings together business and political leaders for exchanges on vital economic and trade issues.

The forum, which runs from March 26 to 29 this year, is held in Boao, a coastal town in Hainan province. With the theme “Shared Future, Concerted Action, Common Development,” it attraced over 2,000 delegates, including government officials, entrepreneurs, and scholars from 60 countries and regions.

As the world’s second-largest economy, China’s contributions to the world were hailed by the delegates at the forum.

China’s development mode, featuring openness, innovation, and win-win cooperation, has brought benefits for the world economy, said former French President Francois Hollande at a panel discussion.

Hollande said the reason China has made unprecedented achievements in the past 40 years is that the country has been constantly adjusting and redefining itself to keep up with the changing international environment.

China’s success has inspired other countries to follow a development approach that is suitable for their national conditions, said Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, speaker of the House of Representatives of the Philippines and former Philippine president.

Delegates also expressed confidence in China’s long-term development.

China’s economy has maintained steady growth, and the fruitful results in areas such as big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning have garnered high praise, said Chris Marlin, president of Lennar International, the largest American homebuilder.

The Belt and Road Initiative stimulates investment in infrastructure and extends across the world to include many emerging economies, said Elizabeth Gaines, chief executive officer of Australian iron ore producer Fortescue Metals Group.
