A series of cultural shows have been aired in China in recent years, altering the situation from one in which screens had been flooded with entertainment programs.
These high-quality cultural content programs present the greatness of traditional Chinese culture to the audience, and are more and more favored by the public.
It was indicated by a survey jointly conducted by the Social Investigation Center of China Youth Daily and a questionnaire website that 84.5 percent of the interviewees enjoyed watching cultural TV shows, and over half of the interviewees said they could feel the beauty of traditional Chinese culture.
50.1 percent believed that they could learn something from cultural shows, the survey said.
Wei Pengju, a researcher of the Institute for Cultural Industries at Peking University, attributed the popularity of these programs to market segmentation, government and mainstream media support, as well as changes in audience preferences.
Wei noted that cultural TV shows can bring high culture and traditional culture closer to the people, and bring win-win results for both social and economic development.
The survey indicated that watching cultural TV shows has already become a channel for people to cultivate themselves. Less than half of interviewees believed that they were knowledgeable, while nearly 35 percent admitted their lack of relevant knowledge.
66.3 percent of the respondents believe that school and family education was too utilitarian and resulted in the current inadequate cultural knowledge plaguing the young generation, while 51.2 percent blamed economic pressures and the stress in life.
The survey also said that 84.1 percent of the interviewees hope to see more quality cultural programs aired.
