Dubbed as “infrastructure magician,” China keeps amazing the world with its infrastructure constructions, from railways across plateaus to bridges across seas, all of which took off from the foundation laid four decades ago at the start of reform and opening-up.
Behind such impressive achievements stand several Chinese enterprises, one of which is China Communications Construction Company (CCCC)—a pioneer and leader in the industry. Today, CCCC is Asia’s largest international contractor and the third largest in the world.
In the 1980s, CCCC that laid the foundation for the first batch of highways in China. By the end of 2017, highways designed and constructed by the company have exceeded 50,000 kilometers, some 37% of the total mileage.
Specifically, the Sichuan-Tibet Highway under construction and the Qinghai-Tibet Highway that has been serving for decades, remain two major passages linking the world’s highest plateau with other cities in China.

On port construction, it not only constructed the world’s largest automatic port, Yangshan Deep water Port in Shanghai, but also has its name engraved in the construction of seven of the world’s top 10 ports.
In the spirit of the reform and opening-up that has boosted the domestic market, CCCC, along with other Chinese enterprises, are also heading overseas under the Belt and Road Initiative. CCCC’s business activities have spread to 151 countries and regions, with a total mileage of road construction overseas exceeding 13,000 kilometers.
