Two major Chinese telecoms equipment manufacturers have passed 5G core network testing, a step toward commercializing the next generation of faster and more capable internet access technology.
Shenzhen-based ZTE Corp finalized its 5G/IMT-2020 network stability and safety tests, verifying the maturity of its core 5G networks, the company said in an e-mail sent to the Global Times on Thursday. The move reflects an upgrading in 5G research and development, as well as a push toward 5G maturity.
The IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group said on Thursday that Huawei also passed the core network safety test, according to a post on the organization's official WeChat account.
The group was jointly established by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commissionand the Ministry of Science and Technology, to promote 5G research and development in China.
Network safety is crucial to commercializing 5G, and the latest testing has proved that Huawei has developed the necessary technologies to keep networks safe, and that it's now well-prepared for large-scale deployment, the group noted.
China is leading the world in preparing for commercial 5G use, ahead of the US and Europe, as it holds about 10 percent of 5G-related patents and has benefited from strong government support, industry representatives told the Global Times in an earlier interview.
