World's largest amphibious aircraft AG600 completes first water takeoff

(CGTN)    13:07, October 20, 2018

China's first large water plane, the AG600, completed first water surface test flight on Saturday in Jingmen of central China's Hubei Province.

This is another breakthrough of the aviation industry in China. This giant plane, also known as Kunlong, is the largest water plane build by China.

With a 28-meter wingspan, the amphibious aircraft can use both land and water surface to take off. The maximum take-off weight is over 53 tons.

Taking off in water surface has higher requirements on the structure of the plane as well as the skill of pilots.

"It is more difficult to take off on water than on land, especially on the shock resistance of the plane," said Chen Ming, co-pilot of AG600.

The plane will be used in disaster relief and fire control missions in the future.
