Johannesburg (People's Daily) - Almost 1,000 miners are trapped at Sibanye Gold's Beatrix mine in the Free State, South Africa, following an electric cable outage after a severe storm on Wednesday night which damaged the power supply to the mine.

Mine spokesperson James Wellsted said on Thursday afternoon that all the miners are safe, and water and food have been delivered to them. At present, the operators are trying to restore power to allow the miners to leave.
