The Medical Assistance Team is one of the many Chinese development assistance modalities to Africa. Since sending its first medical team to Algeria in April 1963, China has successively dispatched 25 medical teams to Algeria by the end of 2017.

The 25th Chinese Medical Assistance Team, with 77 members, arrived in Algeria in May of 2016. They are divided into 7 small teams working in 7 different regions. Most of the teams work in desert and mountainous areas where local people suffer from poverty, underdevelopment and harsh natural conditions.

In Algiers Ben Aknoun Hospital, three Chinese acupuncture doctors have to treat as many as 100 patients per day and five days a week. The narrow corridor is always full of people waiting for treatment. According to doctor Ye, it takes a patient two months to get a new appointment.

The man said the acupuncture treatment is working well on his daughter. In Algeria, people agree that acupuncture is the best way to cure paralysis and muscle pain.
