Shining clouds appeared Tuesday morning over the Ukrainian city of Stanytsia Luhanska, drawing attention to Facebook photos of the phenomenon, according to Sputnik.
A female resident who recorded the scene said she saw trace across the sky as fast as a missile leaving clouds in its wake. She photographed the moving object as quickly as she could but only really managed to capture the aftermath.
Internet users speculated that the phenomenon was caused by an RS-12M intercontinental missile being tested in the Astrakhan Oblast region of Russia. Others wondered if the UFO came from a more exotic location.
Residents of Simferopol in Ukraine said they heard a thud and car alarms went off in many districts. State media reported a meteorite was responsible. The Emergency Situations Ministry said the noise might have been an aircraft sonic boom.
