DOHA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- A Qatari senior official said his country promises to host the "greatest" World Cup despite the ongoing blockade on it, local media reported Tuesday.

The remarks were made by Hassan al-Thawadi, secretary general of Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, at a press conference in the capital Doha on Monday evening.

"Every day we are working to deliver the promises we made in 2010. We remain determined to host the greatest World Cup of all time," Thawadi said.

He also mentioned that billions of U.S. dollars has been earmarked for infrastructure projects in preparation for the world cup.

On the result of the Garcia Report commissioned by FIFA, the official said it has acquitted Doha of corruption.

"We are confident in the integrity of our bid. We fully cooperated with the Garcia Commission," Thawadi said.

He also said Qatar hopes the Saudi-led blockading bloc would allow their citizens to participate in the World Cup 2022 events in Doha.

On June 5, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates cut their diplomatic ties with Qatar and imposed economic sanctions on the tiny gas-rich nation, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism and extremism, which the latter has long denied.
