Three Chinese irrigation structures added to international heritage list

Three Chinese irrigation facilities have been added to the list of the New International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) heritage irrigation structures, reports Chinanews.com.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at the 23rd international congress on irrigation and drainage and the 68th IEC meeting in Mexico City.

The facilities include the ancient irrigation area in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, the Hanzhong Sanyan water conservancy project in Shaanxi province, and the Huangju irrigation project in Fujian province.

The additions make China home to a total of 13 heritage irrigation structures.

Established in 1950, the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) is a leading scientific, technical and not-for-profit Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).

It supports capacity development, stimulates research and innovation and strives to promote policies and programs to enhance sustainable development of irrigated agriculture through a comprehensive water management framework.
