BEIJING, Sept. 27 -- China has commended Jordan for adhering to the one-China policy as Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with visiting Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi here Wednesday.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and China attaches great importance to the strategic partnership with Jordan and hopes the two countries would support each other on issues concerning their core interests, Wang said.
In accordance with the one-China principle, Jordan has requested the so-called Foreign Representative Office of Taiwan in Jordan to change its name.
"We appreciates such a position, and this will further enhance political mutual trust between China and Jordan," Wang said.
Safadi said requesting the organization to change name was a political decision made by Jordanian leaders, and they would continue adherence to the one-China principle in the future.
"Jordan expects joint construction of the 'Belt and Road' initiative and deepened practical cooperation with China. We also hope China could play a bigger role in solving the crisis in the Middle East and promoting development of the region," Safadi added.
