A Chinese woman has been found dead in her apartment in Atlanta, Georgia, the Chinese Consulate General in Houston has said.

The victim, surnamed Li, was found dead by police officers in her Smyrna apartment.

She is believed to be a 28-year-old alumni from Georgia Institute of Technology (GIT), local media said.

Police have identified 24-year-old Brian Marsh Semrinec as the main suspect in the case.

A reward of up to 2,000 US dollars has been offered by police for information leading to his whereabouts, local media reported.

The incident comes just months after Zhang Yingying, a Chinese scholar studying at the University of Illinois, went missing on June 9.

A man has been arrested in connection with her disappearance, but Zhang has not yet been found.
