"Orange Schoolbags" Plan launched for hearing-impaired children

Chinese actor Chen Xiaochun has gone online to try to draw attention to the safety of children with hearing impairments, reports chinesenews.com

He put a post on his Weibo account, alerting drivers to the possible appearance of children walking with orange backpacks.

Orange backpacks are meant to be a signal that the child wearing them is hearing-impaired.

The "Orange Schoolbag" program was launched by the China Hearing Development Foundation on "World Ear Day", March 3, 2016.

However, Chen Xiaochun's post was met with initial skepticism, as many are still said to be unaware of the campaign.

The "Orange Schoolbag" program is active in 20 provincial-level regions and four of China's largest cities.

It's estimated that 4.6-million children under the age of 15 suffer from some form of hearing impairment in China.
