SHANGHAI, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai police said Friday that they have suspended a police officer who violently subdued a woman while putting the child she was carrying in danger.
A video went viral on Friday, showing a police officer in the city's Songjiang district in a verbal confrontation with a woman carrying a child.
The police statement said the officer was patrolling haphazard car parking.
In the video the woman can be seen pushing the officer, who then threw her to the ground. The child fell from her arms and hit the ground beside her.
Police said both the woman and child suffered bruises, but no serious injuries.
The police officer involved has been suspended from duty and is being investigated by police supervisory bodies, the statement said.
"The police officer's rough handling of the incident was wrong," the statement said.
Shanghai police requires officers to be reasonable, gentle, civilized and uphold standard law enforcement procedures, it said.
