OTTAWA, Aug. 18 -- A Canadian man was killed and four others wounded in Thursday's terrorist attack in Barcelona, Spain, Canada's CTV reported Friday.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the terrorist attack, vowing that Canada will continue working with the international community to fight against terrorism.

"It was with great sadness that I learned today that one Canadian was killed and four others injured during yesterday's cowardly terrorist attack in Barcelona," Trudeau said in a statement on Friday.

"We must stand firm against the spread of hate and intolerance in all its forms. These violent acts that seek to divide us will only strengthen our resolve," he said.

The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Canadians to avoid the Las Ramblas area in Barcelona and anyone who is already there should follow the instructions of the authorities.

Canadian Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said Friday that the attack means safety officials will keep a closer eye on security in Canada.

A van on Thursday drove into pedestrians in the Las Ramblas area, just over a kilometer from Canada's consulate in Barcelona, which left 13 people dead and more than 100 others injured.

Hours latter, a second attack occurred in the resort town of Cambrils southwest of Barcelona, killing one woman. Spanish police have classified the incident as a terrorist attack.
