China's PLA Peace Train medical team completes Lao task

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Peace Train medical team on Sunday completed their task in Laos after 12 days of voluntary service in the Southeast Asian country.

"This activity is an in-depth cooperation and exchange between the two militaries in medical field. In addition to bringing quality medical services to Lao army and civilian, the event also opened a new channel for regional exchanges of medical and health. This is also a milestone for cooperation between the two armies," said Liu Dianrong, deputy head of the Health Bureau of the Logistic Support Department of the Central Military Commission of China.

The Peace Train medical team arrived in Laos on July 25 and started providing voluntary medical services from July 27.

Within 12 days in Laos, the 90-member team provided medical services for 3,627 person-times of Lao military personnel, 432 person-times of their relatives, 2,477 person-times of local residents.

The team also conducted 16 surgeries and delivered over 20,000 boxes of medicines, medical equipment, facilities, among others.

In Vientiane, 30 experts from China's Kunming General Hospital joined doctors and medical staff of Lao Military Hospital 103 in providing medical services, including rare cases.

Doctors of the two countries also conducted painless gastrointestinal endoscopy for a Lao patient, the first of this kind in Laos.

In Lao northern Luang Namtha province, 60 members of the Peace Train team also received many patients everyday, with the highest number of patients reached over 600 people a day.

Chinese Ambassador to Laos Wang Wentian said that Peace Train has become a popular word in Laos in the past days.
