China has urged the US to take concrete measures to ensure the safety of Chinese missions, institutes and personnel in the country, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said on Thursday.
The spokesman's statement came after a shooting incident on Tuesday in which an Asian man shot himself dead after firing gunshots at the Chinese Consulate-General in Los Angeles' Filipinotown.
"China has lodged a solemn representation to the United States and urged US side to solve the case as soon as possible," Geng said in the statement.
The man fired 18 shots outside the building but there have been no reports of any injuries.
The Los Angeles police have stepped in and a further investigation is underway.
