Chinese President Xi Jinping said Friday that enhancing BRICS cooperation not only protects and expands the interests of BRICS countries, but also helps explore ways to build a new type of international relations.
Xi made the remarks when meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, South African Minister of State Security David Mahlobo, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Brazilian Institutional Security Minister Sergio Etchegoyen, who were in Beijing to attend the seventh meeting of BRICS High Representatives for Security Issues.
Xi congratulated on the success of the two-day meeting, saying that it has made important preparations for the upcoming BRICS summit in China's southeastern coastal city of Xiamen in September.
Serving as a major platform for BRICS nations to cooperate and discuss political and security issues, the meeting on Thursday and Friday was chaired by Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi.
